I've changed my current #1 gaming interest from Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars to Left 4 Dead.

I still think ETQW is the one of best multiplayer games ever made but unfortionately for me, many others don't agree. For now my #1 gaming interest is L4D. I'm progressing quite well through the achievements. Some of the ones left are going to be very tuff to get. Details - here.

I'll have a L4D server up and running by the end of the week I'd say. More details soon.

[L4D] Zombies everywhere!
Thursday, 5 February, 2009, 08:34 - Left 4 Dead
Posted by ned
Well I've started getting into Left 4 Dead! It's a game by VALVE.

Left 4 Dead is a co-op action horror game for the PC and Xbox 360 that casts players in an epic struggle for survival against swarming zombie hordes and terrifying mutant monsters. Set in the immediate aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, L4D's survival co-op mode lets you blast a path through the infected in four unique “movies,” guiding your survivors across the rooftops of an abandoned metropolis, through rural ghost towns and pitch-black forests in your quest to escape a devastated Ground Zero crawling with infected enemies.

This game is a heap of fun ;] Online and LAN are great! There is a singleplayer mode which is ok but coop & mp is where it really excels in my opinion. To add to the game there's a bundle of achievements you can go for. Here's a list of them all and the percentage of world players that have them - link. As you can see, some of these would be quite hard to get (legitimately). I've been slowly working at mine. I've been keeping track of them chronologically - here.

I've already had a play around with the dedicated server pack and it ran well. I've only tested it via LAN so far. When my server eventually gets a dedicated connection again I'll run some test nights where while testing the server I'll organise some achievement goals as well.

Stay tuned ;p

ned's Steaming!

I tried Steam a few years ago and had many issues with it. I swore I'd never touch it again. It was a buggy, laggy, slow downloading POS in my opinion.

BUT... now I'm back using it after buying Left 4 Dead and I have to say that I can't fault it! Resonable downloads, good layout, user friendly, huge variety, great info per game, xfire-like features..

I've also run quick tests with a couple of dedicated server setups (Left 4 Dead & GTR Evolution Demo) and everything went well with no complaint.

JW FLV Media Player test

I'm testing out a flash player for the blog by LongTail Video called the JW FLV Media Player. The original CAforNoobs.wmv file was converted by EasyFLV Free FLV Converter.

This movie by Fox from TOG (theoldergamers.com) is a newbies guide to Combat Arms. The original higher res version will be available for download from this site soon.

I'll be playing around with this software quite a bit trying to ustilise the flashvars.

=====

TOG Fox and I have been playing a bit of SWAT 4 lately, Specifically the Sheriff's Special Forces mod v3.1 for The Stetchkov Syndicate expansion pack. As you can see from this quick video put together by Fox we would both be in jail by now if we were real SWAT 4 guys lol.

I'm the one in view because Fox was filming using Fraps.

LOL moments were at the 20 and 40 second marks with me punching the suspect in the back of the head after he taunted me and later when Fox twitched after hearing the sound of my taser only to shot and kill a subdued suspect =]

If you're interested in playing SWAT 4 SSF mod with us then contact me via this blog or contact myself or Fox at theoldergamers.com forum (Ned or Fox) or simply post in this thread - here.

Thanks to domc from the Simple PHP Blog forum for starting me off with this embedding flash idea and providing some code I could use!

Alien Swarm: Infested
Friday, 16 January, 2009, 23:57 - >Games (PC)

Alien Swarm started out as a mod for the FPS title Unreal Tournamnet 2004 but not as an FPS! This Alien Swarm mod is an overhead view tactical squad-based shooter. This game was the first non-FPS/sim game I played that I liked.

It was looking to be a dedicated game and it deserves it in my opinion!

AS:I is built upon the Source Engine from Valve and will be available as a competitively priced commercial game!

Alien Swarm: Infested is an upcoming action strategy game featuring a unique blend of co-op play and squad level tactics all in an overhead view. As a Commander in the Interstellar Armed Forces, your job is to guide your squad and successfully complete their mission against the ravages of the Swarm infestation, a threat which plagues mankind across the breadth of colonized space.

...now it's looking to be a Half Life 2 mod
